How to Wash Your Custom Branded Clothing & Apparel

How to wash your custom branded clothes

Taking care of your custom branded clothing doesn’t have to be rocket science. Understanding the fundamentals and best practices of washing your custom clothes will not only allow you to keep your clothes looking top notch but it will also help your clothes last for many months to come. In this blog post, you will learn how to wash your custom branded clothing and apparel. Learn the simple steps that will allow you to keep your branded clothing and apparel to stay in mint condition.

How to Wash Your Branded Clothing:

  • Read the labels: The first thing you must do is to check the care label of your garment. This will provide you with the most basic instructions on how to handle your clothing. If you can master this, you are off to a great start.
  • Wash on Cold: Washing with cold water will prevent vibrant colours from fading and will help you prevent shrinkage.
  • Wash Inside-Out: Washing your clothes inside out will allow you to protect the artwork, design, graphic or logo from the effects of friction which happens inside of the washing machine. Washing inside-out will reduce the amount of wear and tear.
  • Avoid Using Harsh Chemicals: Regardless of how much of a stain is present on your custom clothes, we recommend using harsh chemical agents such as bleach. Even colour-safe bleach can damage your artwork and reduce its vibrance.
  • Zip Up- Hoodies Before Wash: You should always zip up any apparel with a zipper. For example, zipping up a hoodie before washing to reduce wear and tear to the fabric or design.

How to Dry Your Custom Apparel:

  • Avoid Heat: Dryers can become hot. The heat produced by your dryer is harsh on clothing whether or not it has a custom design. If you have the choice, always opt for hang-drying your clothes.
  • Tumble Dry, Coldest Setting: If you have to use your dryer, tumble dry and use the coldest setting possible in order to reduce the harsh effects of heat on your clothing.
  • Hang-Dry is Better: Hang-Dry should be your preferred choice. It eliminates all risk of heat-induced damage. Remember. Heat is your worst enemy for your clothes.

How to Iron or Steam your Custom Clothes:

Just like mentioned for drying your clothes, heat is still your number one enemy when it comes to removing wrinkles from your clothing. Avoid steaming or ironing over your designs directly. If you choose to iron, we recommend you use a thin cloth over the design or iron inside out.  The heat from your iron and steam wand can cause your colours to fade and damage artwork over time.

How to Wash & Care For Your Custom Embroidery Clothes

The same best practices mentioned earlier applies to custom embroidered products. Follow normal care instructions found on the label as you normally should. Wash Inside out to reduce the chances of your embroidered designs from getting snagged or damaged. Avoid washing with clunky items such as garments with zippers, buttons or other hard surfaces.
